The constant feel of “Fernweh“
[fɛʁnve]
Hey, I’m Musa!
A so called TCK – short for Third Culture Kid. TCKs are people who grew up in a culture different from that of their parents or the country they were born in.
The purpose of all of this is to cure this feeling of being homesick for a place you’ve never been called “Fernweh“. It’s made up of the 2 german words “Fern” [engl. far], and weh, [engl. woe], so could be translated as a longing for distant places. It’s funny that there’s a word for this feeling and this word is home to the place I was born in – Germany.
However, the place you was born in does not necessarily mean that it’s the place you feel at home in.
As a child to immigrant parents from another continent and culture, I always found myself struggling to find a place that really felt like home. Although we live in times where travelling, connecting and working remote as a digital nomad is getting easier and faster than ever, it is also a time where we struggle the most of finding a sense of belonging – whether that’s a community or a city.
On altruisTCKnomad, I hope we will both discover this feeling of belonging – no matter where your journey takes you.
